ABOUT Ladakh

ABOUT LADAKH

District Leh is situated roughly between 32° to 36°N latitude and 75° to 80°E longitude (altitude ranging from 2300 to 5000 mtrs above sea level). The District is bounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir in the west, China in the North and eastern part and Lahul Spiti of Himachal Pardesh in the south east. It is at a distance of 434 Kms from State capital (Summer) Srinagar and 474 Kms from Manali (HP).

Topographically, the whole of the district is mountainous with three parallel ranges of the Himalayas, the Zanskar, the Ladakh and the Karakoram range. Between these ranges, the Shayok, Indus and Zanskar rivers flow and most of the population lives in valleys of these rivers.

Leh is a small town and walking is an easy way to explore the villages around and get away from the bustle. Several restaurants and cafes serve a range of cuisine. If you're flying in to Leh, the airport is 3 Kms from the town and 4Kms from Royal Holiday Hotel, and the best way to reach the town is to take a taxi as there is no Airport bus. Enjoy Double Humped Camel ride at Nubra Valley, Admire the beauty of Pangong lake and explore the beautiful monasteries of Ladakh. In Leh itself you can walk around to almost all the worth seeing sights, however to visit the numerous Monasteries around Leh you can take a taxi which the staff at our Hotel will gladly arrange for you. It is suggested to spend a couple of days in town if you're heading out on a trek as the high mountain rarefied air needs some acclimatisation.
